The world has not advanced technologically due to the number of predators who dominate the wilderness. Many predators, like most species, are just trying to survive from day to day; therefore, the world has been stalled in a medieval lifestyle.
As they enter into to Fourth Age of their existence, time is beginning to unfold from a great evil once encountered at the end of the Second Age that all thought was asleep, which now seems destined to awaken.
